ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which they discussed current developments in South Asia.
Marco Rubio appreciated Pakistan’s perspective and stressed the importance of continued collaboration between both countries to ensure peace and stability in South Asia.
Prime Minister Sharif condemned all forms and manifestations of terrorism, emphasizing Pakistan’s pivotal role in the global fight against terror. He stated that Pakistan has sacrificed over 90,000 lives and suffered economic losses exceeding $152 billion in this fight.
He expressed deep concern over India’s increasingly provocative behavior, terming it disappointing and a threat to regional peace. He said that India’s recent actions are aimed at diverting attention from Pakistan’s ongoing efforts against terrorism. He rejected Indian attempts to link Pakistan with the Pahalgam incident and reiterated the demand for an impartial investigation to bring the facts to light.
Sharif also raised serious concerns over India’s “water aggression”, stressing that water is a lifeline for Pakistan’s 240 million people. He stated that there is no clause in the Indus Waters Treaty that allows unilateral withdrawal.
