WASHINGTON: After Canada accused India of orchestrating the killing of a Khalistan movement leader, who was also a Canadian citizen, in Canada about three months ago, pressure is mounting on the Modi government to cooperate in the probe to bring the culprits to book.
On Friday, the United States said the Indian government should work with Canada on efforts to investigate the possible involvement of New Delhi agents in the murder of a Canadian citizen in June.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau earlier stated that Ottawa had credible intelligence linking Indian agents to the murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters in Washington that the Biden administration was “deeply concerned about allegations that Prime Minister Trudeau has raised. It would be important that India work with the Canadians on this investigation. We want to see accountability.”
Pakistan, meanwhile, has stated that the ugly face of India as regard to its covert activities involving killings and other crimes in other countries has been exposed at the world level.
Top government functionaries have said that India has been involved in extrajudicial killings and other atrocities in occupied Kashmir for decades.
Its terror activities have also been unearthed inside Pakistan especially in the Balochistan province for years.
In this regard, a serving Indian naval officer was arrested in Balochistan a few years ago who revealed India’s funding and other illegal acts to foment terrorism on Pakistani soil.
The high profile spy is still in the custody of Pakistan.
Islamabad said the allegation of Canada that Indian agents were involved in the killing of its citizen in June this year was no surprise for it, but vindicated Pakistan’s assertion that India should be made accountable for its extra-territorial terrorism that it has been involved in for so long.
