US to scrutinize social media accounts of student visa seekers

WASHINGTON: The Trump administration has decided to order its embassies broad to scrutinize the social media accounts of those traveling to the United States on student visas.

According to a report in US media The New, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has instructed diplomats to closely monitor the social media profiles of visa applicants.

On March 25, Marco Rubio sent a letter to diplomats, directing them to examine the social media content of visa applicants. The purpose is to prevent individuals who criticize the U.S. and Israel from entering the country.

It is worth noting that following the anti-Israel student movement in the U.S., the Trump administration has intensified actions against foreign students.

Thousands of young people apply for student visas to visit the US to pursue their education and there is already a lengthy process to review the applications and issue student visas.
