ISLAMABAD: The United States has directed the departure of its non-essential diplomatic personnel from Pakistan due to security concerns, according to an official statement issued by the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad.
The advisory also applies to non-essential staff at the U.S. Consulates in Lahore and Karachi, who have been instructed to leave the country as a precautionary measure.
The embassy clarified that there has been no change in the operational status of the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad. Essential diplomatic functions and services will continue as normal.
According to the statement, the decision was taken in light of rising regional tensions between the United States and Iran, which have increased the potential risk of drone and missile attacks across the region.
U.S. officials stated that the situation is being continuously monitored and further measures may be taken if necessary.
