NEW YORK: The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that the initial registration period for the fiscal year 2026 H-1B cap will open on March 7, 2025, at noon Eastern and close on March 24, 2025, at noon Eastern. During this period, U.S. employers seeking to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations must register their beneficiaries electronically via the USCIS online system and pay a $215 registration fee per beneficiary.
This initiative is crucial for U.S. companies, particularly those in tech, healthcare, and engineering, as it allows them to access highly skilled international talent to fill specialized roles. The beneficiary-centric selection process, introduced in FY 2025, will continue, ensuring a fairer system by selecting unique beneficiaries rather than multiple registrations for the same individual.
Additionally, new enhancements to the USCIS online system will streamline the process for legal representatives and employers. Paralegals can now work with multiple legal representatives, and data-entry features, such as spreadsheet uploads for H-1B beneficiary details, will help reduce administrative burdens.
The temporary increase in the daily credit card transaction limit to $99,999.99 will also facilitate bulk payments for larger employers, addressing past payment issues. Employers must ensure they have an active USCIS organizational account to participate in the selection process.
Why It Matters: The H-1B visa program is a vital pathway for U.S. companies to attract global talent, drive innovation, and maintain competitiveness in critical industries. With these new system improvements, the registration process is expected to be more efficient, transparent, and accessible for employers and legal representatives.
