Woman from Gujranwala wins global teacher award
Riffat Arif alias Sister Zeb launched her school for poor children when she was 13 years old.
ISLAMABAD: Riffat Arif alias Sister Zeb from Gujranwala Punjab has won an international best teacher award.
The award was handed her at a function held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.
Sister Zeb founded a school for poor children in the courtyard of her house at the age of just 13. She used to teach the unprivileged children besides continuing her own education.
After being honored with the Global Teacher Award carrying one million dollars last week, she said she plans to use the money to build a much bigger learning facility to educate greater number of students.
“Let us work together to ensure that every child has the chance to learn, dream, and make a positive impact on our world.”
Speakers at the function paid tributes to Sister Zeb for her dedicated service to spread education and described her a role model and beacon for others.
