ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Human Rights and Women Empowerment on Saturday urged the international community to force Israel to immediately stop its indiscriminate bombardment on civilian population and inhumane siege of Gaza.
She made the appeal at a meeting with Palestinian Ambassador Ahmed Rabei in Islamabad. According to a press release, they expressed their concerns over the humanitarian tragedy in Palestine as a result of Israel’s siege of Gaza.
She said the siege of Gaza was resulting in a grave humanitarian tragedy putting the lives of thousands of Palestinians at risk of starvation and genocide at the hands of Israeli forces. Over 2,000 people have alredy been killed in Israeli air strikes on Gaza.
She appealed to the international community to force Israel to immediately stop indiscriminate bombings and inhumane siege of Gaza. She said the international community should also take notice of blatant human rights violations in Gaza and ensure establishment of an immediate humanitarian corridor for supply of essential medical and food supplies in Gaza.
According to media reports, Israel has pounded Gaza for the eighth day in a row as the besieged Palestinian enclave faces a growing humanitarian catastrophe. Israel had ordered 1.1 million people to move to southern Gaza within 24 hours, raising fears that an Israeli ground operation is imminent.
The World Health Organization has warned that Gaza’s health system has reached breaking point and there is little time to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.
