ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari in his address to the joint sitting of parliament in Thursday evening said if genuine steps are taken the political temperature in the country can cool down, and there was an urgent need for it.
During the address of the president, the opposition members of the Sunni Ittehad Council continued chanting slogans. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were also present in the house.
The president congratulated all the members of the National Assembly and Senate on the start of the parliamentary year.
He said the country was facing hosts of challenges and we need to get together and jointly tackle them and put the country on track if development and prosperity.
About the national economy, the president said our primary objective should be to attract foreign direct investment. He said the government had intensified its efforts to ensure reforms to attract investment by introducing incentives and making business activities easy.
He referred to the establishment of Special Investment Facilitation Council a vital move to attract investment in key sectors of the economy.
The president also said that there was an urgent need for drastic reforms in the health sector to ensure healthcare facilities to the citizens.
Moreover, we also need steps to introduce and implement reforms in the agriculture sector to improve productivity and ensure food security for the growing population.
