120-day tax-free mobile registration facility for overseas Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a new facility allowing overseas Pakistanis to register their mobile devices tax-free for 120 days during each visit to Pakistan.

According to PTA, this service is provided free of cost through an automated Temporary Mobile Registration System.

The initiative aims to ensure uninterrupted mobile connectivity for overseas Pakistanis during their short stays in the country, sparing them from paying hefty duties or navigating complex registration processes.

The move has been welcomed by expatriate communities, who often face challenges in using their personal phones while visiting Pakistan due to the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS). PTA hopes the new system will simplify travel for overseas Pakistanis and enhance their overall experience during visits home.
