159 Lawmakers Suspended for Not Filing Asset Declarations

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the memberships of 159 members of the National Assembly, provincial assemblies, and the Senate for failing to submit their asset declarations.

In the National Assembly, 32 members have been suspended, while 50 members of the Punjab Assembly, 33 members of the Sindh Assembly, 28 members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, 7 members of the Balochistan Assembly, and 9 senators are also affected.

Key officials and lawmakers affected include Federal Minister Musaddiq Malik, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Arshad Vohra, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, Ali Musa Gilani, Syra Afzal Tarrar, and Mehrin Razaq Bhutto.

From the Sindh Assembly, the memberships of Speaker Owais Qadir Shah, Qaim Ali Shah, Agha Shahbaz Durrani, and Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman have also been suspended.

Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani is among those affected. In the Senate, Fawzia Arshad, Abid Sher Ali, Murad Saeed, and Noor-ul-Haq Qadri have had their memberships suspended.

Suspended members cannot participate in any parliamentary or provincial assembly proceedings until their memberships are reinstated.

The ECP had instructed all members to submit details of their assets and liabilities using Form B under Section 137 of the Election Act by January 15, 2026. Failure to comply resulted in the suspension of these 159 members.

Members must submit their asset declarations to regain the right to participate in parliamentary business.
