SRINAGAR: In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the victims of the Hawal massacre continue to await justice even after the passage of 36 years.
According to Kashmir Media Service, on May 21, 1990, Indian troops opened fire indiscriminately on the funeral procession of Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq. The attack resulted in the martyrdom of 72 Kashmiris and left over 200 others injured.
Despite more than three decades having passed, the victims and their families are still seeking accountability, with their calls for justice remaining unfulfilled.
Human rights organizations and local leaders have repeatedly condemned the attack and demanded a thorough investigation, emphasizing that the lack of justice has deepened the sense of injustice and trauma among the families of the victims.
They also stress that addressing these historical grievances is essential for lasting peace and reconciliation in the region.
