Another former PTI lawmaker appears to joins Tareen’s IPP

Ali Nawaz Awan was reportedly arrested a few weeks back from the district of Mansehra.

ISLAMABAD: A former member of the National Assembly (MNA) belonging to jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s PTI party, who was reportedly arrested a few weeks back from the district of Mansehra, today announced his decision to join Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party.

Ali Nawaz Awan, a former PTI MNA from Islamabad, appeared along with IPP patron-in-chief Jahangir Khan Tareen and president Aleem Khan at the residence of the former in Lahore and announced his decision to join the IPP. The IPP was formed by deserters of the PTI after the May 9 violence.

In a social media post, the IPP said joining of the party by Ali Nawaz Awan was yet another victory.

It may be noted here that the PTI in a reaction to the reported arrest of Mr Awan had stated that forcible disappearance of its leaders was shameful. It called upon the chief justice of Pakistan to take notice of the matter.

After the May 9 arson attacks on military installations, a large number of PTI leaders and supporters were booked in different cases. Over 100 PTI supporters are already in jail in the arson attacks case, but their trial by military courts was declared null and void by the Supreme Court of Pakistan last month. The government has filed an appeal against the verdict in the apex court.
