Pakistan retaliates by hitting terror bases in Iran: FO

Iranian media reports confirm attacks and say seven people, including three women, all non-Iranians, were killed.

ISLAMABAD: In retaliation to the attack and violation of its air space by Iran, Pakistan has hit bases of terror groups in Iran side of its border, the Foreign Office in Islamabad said on Thursday.

According to a Foreign Office spokesperson, Pakistan carried out missile attacks in Siestan-Baluchistan province of Iran in which a number of terrorists were killed.

Iranian media said several missiles hit a village in the Siestan-Baluchistan province that borders Pakistan, killing three women and four children, all non-Iranians.

“A number of terrorists were killed during the intelligence-based operation,” the Pakistani ministry said in a statement, describing it as a “series of highly coordinated and specifically targeted precision military strikes against terrorist hideouts”.

Iranian media confirmed the attacks in the border areas and said seven people, including three women, were killed in the strikes and they all were non-Iranians.

The FO in Islamabad said the operation called Marg-e-Bar Saramchar was a response to Iran’s violation of its air space. Iran a day earlier said that it successfully hit and demolished bases of a terrorist outfit in Panjgur area of Balochistan.

Pakistan said the Iranian missiles hit a house and a nearby mosque and killed three children and injured three other persons. Islamabad warned Iran of the consequences of its violating its air space.

Islamabad called back its ambassador and told the Iranian ambassador, who was on leave in his country, not to return for the time being.

Meanwhile, the US condemned Iran and said it was the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the region. It said Iran attacked three of its neighbors within a few days which were against international laws.
