Pakistan, Iran to jointly fight terrorism; eight MoUs signed

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran Monday signed eight memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to jointly work in different sectors besides fighting the menace of terrorism.

The MoUs were signed by the two sides at the Prime Minister House in the presence of Iranian President Syyed Ebrahim Raisi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

After signing the MoUs, the prime minister and the visiting Iranian president vowed to jointly work for promotion of trade and many other sectors.

Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Iran for standing solidly in support of the people of Palestine and Kashmir as well.

The Iranian president said people of Pakistan had always supported Muslims around the world.

Earlier, Iran’s President Syyed Ebrahim Raisi arrived in Islamabad on a three-day visit to Pakistan on Monday.

This is the first visit to Pakistan of any Iranian president since 2017. The Iranian president is accompanied by his wife and a delegation including the foreign minister.

Upon his arrival, federal minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada welcomed the Iranian president at the Chaklala airbase in Rawalpindi.

The Iranian president will meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other authorities.

The two sides will discuss regional and global issues, including the Middle East tension, besides trade and mutual cooperation in different fields.
