Sindh: 1,271 HR violations reported in five months

Report says most of complaints filed by citizens were against police.

KARACHI: As many as 1,271 human rights violations were reported in the province of Sindh in the last five months, according to a report released today.

The human rights department of Sindh in its report said that most of the complaints involving rights violations were filed by the victims or their relatives against the police. The complaints against the police were 786, the report said.

During the period, there were 43 cases of harassment and 94 cases of suicide, the report added. Moreover, there were also 157 cases of kidnaping and 373 cases of murder in the province.

The report said besides the police, complaints were filed against the revenue, education and labor departments.

The deputy director of the human rights department said that the inspector general of the Sindh police had been informed about the complaints of human rights against the police.
