LAHORE: The Punjab government has been directed to prepare a 10-year plan to overcome the issue of smog.
The direction was issued to the provincial government by Lahore High Court while hearing a petition filed by citizens and other stakeholders as most cities in the province remained engulfed in smog.
While visibility was improved with opening of closed roads and prediction of rain in some areas, the high court ordered the government to to file a report on the progress to overcome the issue by next week.
On the other hand, Lahore remained the top most polluted city followed by Multan on Friday morning. The Met Office has already forecast rain in northern Punjab and Khyber Pakthunkhwa on Saturday that would decrease smog.
While the Met Office predicted rain, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday issued an appeal to the public to offer prayers for rain. A circular in this regard was issued by the government on Friday.
