Trump’s adviser Elon Musk meets Iranian envoy: reports

Iran's permanent representative to UN convey message to upcoming US president to lift sanctions on Tehran.

WASHINGTON: Billionaire Elon Musk, who has been picked as an adviser by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, has met Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations.

Citing two Iranian officials, a US newspaper reported that the meeting held discussion of how to defuse tensions between Iran and the United States.

It’s very important that the US President-elect has started ab approach for rapprochement with Iran even before taking over the charge, showing his seriousness to normalize relations between the two countries.

According to media reports, the request for the meeting was made by Elon Musk while the venue of the meeting was chosen by Amir Saeid Iravani, Iranian ambassador to the UN, at an undisclosed location in New York.

During the meeting that, according to the reports lasted for an hour, the Iranian in permanent representative to the UN stressed that the US should lift sanctions on Iran. He also invited Elon Musk to make investment in Iran.

Trump during the election campaign had repeatedly stated that he was against continuing war in any part of the world and would also ask the Israeli government to finish the job as soon as possible.

It may be mentioned here that it was however Trump who had terminated a nuclear deal with Iran when he was the US president besides adding more sanctions on Tehran. Trump had also ordered the assassination of Iranian general Qasim Sulaimani in Iraq.
