Over 300 Pakistani students stranded in Syria: Shehbaz

Says he spoke to prime minister of Lebanon to help in evacuating students.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that over 300 Pakistani students are standard in different parts of Syria after rebels ousted President Bashar Al Assad and took control of the country.

Because of the uncertain situation in Syria, the Pakistani students need to be evacuated and brought back home but due to unavailability of flights from Syria they have to first reach Lebanon before being airlifted.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif spoke to his counterpart in Lebanon and requested for help in evacuating the Pakistanis.

Mr Sharif said that his government had approached the government of Lebanon and the Prime Minister of Lebanon assured Pakistan that they would be helping in the evacuation of the students from Syria.

Prime Minister Sharif said that Pakistani students would first cross over into Lebanon from Syria from where arrangements would be made to airlift them back to their country.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sharif also directed the Pakistani diplomatic staff in Lebanon and Syria to expedite coordination and efforts to help Pakistanis in moving out of Syria.
