Ban on bringing more than one phone from abroad withdrawn

FBR had issued notification restricting Pakistanis from bringing to country more than one mobile phones.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue has withdrawn a ban on Pakistanis to bring home more than one mobile phone from abroad.

The Federal Board of Revenue had stated that any Pakistani bringing home more than one mobile phones from abroad would not be allowed and the excess phones would be forefeited.

The FBR had issued a notification changing the baggage rules of 2006 that allowed Pakistanis to bring home two mobile phones from abroad.

A day earlier, the FBR in a notification had banned bringing items including mobile phones worth more than a specific amount.

Under the new notification, a Pakistani while returning home from abroad would bring only one phone. However, after outcry by overseas Pakistanis, the FBR on Tuesday withdrew the notification and restored the 2006 law under which overseas Pakistanis can now bring home two mobile phones.
