Constable caught trying to fly to USA on fake visa

Officials say policeman had paid over Rs10 million to an agent in Sheikhupura, Punjab

KARACHI: An official of the Punjab Police was arrested at Karachi airport while trying to travel to United States of America on a fake visa.

Officials of the Federal Investigation Agency said that the constable had paid over Rs10 million to an agent in Sheikhupura, Punjab, for going to the US. However, the visa turned out to be fake.

During the checking in of passengers at Jinnah International Airport Karachi, the Federal Investigation Agency and other law enforcement agencies personnel checked and found the visa on the passport of the constable and took him into custody.

The arrested man was identified as Muhammad Usman, posted to the Women Enclave of Punjab Police in Gujranwala.

After his arrest, the constable was shifted to the Anti-Human Smuggling Cell of the FIA for further investigation.

Despite government efforts and claim of action and crackdown there has been no checks on human smugglers in Pakistan. Hundreds of Pakistanis have lost their lives or ended in jails abroad while trying to reach European and other countries after paying their hard-eared money to human smugglers back home.
