ISLAMABAD: Over 10,000 Pakistanis are currently languishing in different jails in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the National Assembly was told on Wednesday.
During the question hour in the lower house of parliament, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that 10,279 Pakistanis were currently in Saudi jails. They were involved in different crimes and arrested by the police in the kingdom.
He said upon completion of their sentences, the prisoners are provided with emergency travel documents. Besides imprisonment, those found involved in criminal activities are also fined and fine amount of the convicts are paid by other Pakistanis in the kingdom, he said.
The foreign minister also told the house that the kingdom of Saudi Arabia had agreed to repatriate 570 Pakistani prisoners.
It is very embarrassing for the nation that Pakistanis are ahead of other people in committing crimes of almost all nature in the world, bringing a very bad image to their country. The government of UAE has restricted the issuance of visas to Pakistanis because of their involvement in criminal activities.
