Dar meets UN chief, calls for just resolution of Kashmir issue

Deputy Prime Minister meets UN Secretary General in New York and condemns Israeli acrocities in Gaza.

NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar at a meeting with United Nations Secretary General António Guterres called for a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with Security Council resolutions.

He underscored Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to promoting international peace, and security as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (2025–2026), while highlighting Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to multilateralism and the UN Charter, including UN peacekeeping efforts.

He met the UN secretary general on the sidelines of the Summit of the Future, and appreciated the UN chief for organizing the event. Mr Dar expressed the hope that the Pact for the Future will be fully implemented, meeting the financing needs of the developing countries to implement the SDGs and climate goals.

Call for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute which has been on the UN agenda for decades, Mr Dar condemned Israel’s atrocities against the Palestinian people. He  reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for a two-state solution, with a viable, contiguous, and sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

He also highlighted cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan and called for the UN support in countering terrorism within and from Afghanistan. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to provide humanitarian support to the millions of destitute people in Afghanistan and to promote its economic development, including through implementing connectivity projects between Central Asia and Pakistan through Afghanistan.

On this occasion, Secretary General Guterres thanked Pakistan for its active engagement at the United Nations as well as for its role towards maintenance of international peace and security in the form of its UN Peacekeeping contributions.

Meeting with Saudi vice foreign minister 

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Eng. Waleed Abdul Karim El-Khereiji, in New York.

He commended the long-standing Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral economic and security cooperation with the Kingdom. 

Recognizing the deep-rooted strategic and economic ties between the two countries, the two leaders reiterated their resolve to expand economic cooperation and explore avenues for broad-based collaboration in trade, investment, and commercial sectors, emphasizing the vast investment opportunities available in Pakistan.

The two leaders also discussed the recent developments in the Middle East, including the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank. They called for the full implementation of the Gaza ceasefire, provision of adequate and unhindered humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, and early commencement of reconstruction and progress toward the two state solution.

They further underscored the critical role of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in addressing issues concerning the Muslim Ummah.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to deepening their multifaceted partnership for mutual prosperity and regional stability.
