New Rules Introduced to Curb Inappropriate Content in Theatre Dramas

LAHORE: The Punjab Council of the Arts has issued new rules and guidelines for theatre dramas across the province, introducing a 14-point policy aimed at curbing unethical and inappropriate content and ensuring that performances reflect Punjab’s culture and traditions.

Under the new guidelines, sleeveless and shoulderless clothing has been prohibited in theatre dramas. Theatre administrations have also been directed to submit the script of each drama at least one week before its performance.

The new policy allows a maximum of five songs in a single drama, while additional songs and unnecessary items have been prohibited.

The guidelines further direct theatre administrations to ensure that costumes and content are in line with Punjab’s cultural values and traditions. Strict instructions have also been issued to prevent unethical and inappropriate material from being included in performances.

Prior approval will be required for replacing actors or introducing new performers in a drama. The authorities have also directed that storylines should include elements of public awareness and convey positive messages.

The Punjab Council of the Arts has instructed theatre administrations to ensure full compliance with all 14 points of the newly issued policy.
