JEDDAH: Pakistan’s team has secured one gold and two silver medals at the International Nuclear Science Olympiad 2026, delivering an impressive performance at the prestigious international competition held in Saudi Arabia.
The third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO-2026) was held in Jeddah from August 2 to August 8, 2026. The Pakistani team was selected and trained by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS).
With the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the olympiad brought together 120 students and experts from 19 countries, including China, Japan, Russia, Türkiye, Malaysia, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
Muhammad Ali, a student of Government College University (GCU), Lahore, won the gold medal. Muhammad Usman of FG Sir Syed College, The Mall, Rawalpindi, and Seerat Fatima Bhatti of Nixor College, Karachi, secured silver medals.
Shuja Haider of Sunder STEM School, located in Lahore’s outskirts in Sunder village, also represented Pakistan at the olympiad.
The students were selected through the Pakistan Nuclear Science Olympiad (PANSO), an important initiative of PAEC. The selection process was jointly conducted by the Directorate of Education at PAEC Headquarters and PIEAS.
Following their selection, the students received specialised training under the supervision of distinguished faculty members and experts at PIEAS to prepare them for the international competition.
The International Nuclear Science Olympiad is a prominent international competition in nuclear science for secondary-level students. It aims to promote scientific skills, knowledge exchange and international cooperation in the fields of nuclear science and technology.
The olympiad also provides young students with an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of nuclear science and its peaceful applications.
