NEW DELHI: Protests against India’s government have intensified as opposition parties joined a growing youth-led movement that began on social media over alleged examination irregularities.
According to local reports, demonstrations escalated after human rights activist Sonam Wangchuk was reportedly transferred to a hospital during his hunger strike. Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party, also launched a hunger strike in solidarity and was reportedly attacked with ink during the protest.
Wangchuk’s wife said the family had not been provided with his medical report and expressed a lack of confidence in the government’s handling of his treatment.
The Indian Express reported that opposition parties, despite their political differences, have united in criticizing the government over Wangchuk’s hospital transfer.
Political analysts say the Cockroach Janata Party, which began as an online satire movement, has evolved into a broader platform attracting support from young people dissatisfied with the government.
The growing protests and opposition backing have increased pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration.
