ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Canada have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations as leaders from both countries explored new avenues of cooperation in trade, investment, energy, agriculture, and industry.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand during her visit to Islamabad, describing the relationship between the two countries as friendly and highlighting the importance of further expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The Prime Minister emphasized that stronger economic ties could open new opportunities for both nations.
During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif called for greater collaboration in sectors including agriculture and agri-foods, vaccine manufacturing, renewable energy, automobiles, and auto parts. He also conveyed his greetings and best wishes to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, expressing hope for an upcoming meeting with him.
The Prime Minister recalled his earlier telephone conversation with his Canadian counterpart in April and appreciated Canada’s support for Pakistan’s efforts toward regional peace and stability.
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome extended to her and her delegation. She conveyed Prime Minister Carney’s best wishes and said her visit was aimed at following through on Canada’s desire to broaden and deepen its partnership with Pakistan.
Anand highlighted Canada’s interest in exploring new opportunities, particularly in agriculture, mining, energy, and industrial cooperation. She noted that the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPPA) could play an important role in encouraging Canadian investors and building greater confidence in Pakistan’s investment environment.
Both sides recognized the Pakistani-Canadian community as an important connection between the two nations, helping strengthen cultural and economic relations.
The two countries also agreed to exchange delegations focused on trade and mineral cooperation. The initiative aims to identify mutually beneficial opportunities and increase bilateral trade and investment, marking another step toward a stronger and more dynamic Pakistan-Canada partnership.
