LAHORE: A decision on introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a subject in Punjab’s primary schools has been delayed, affecting the printing of new textbooks.
According to sources, the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board has yet to issue an official notification approving the subject, leaving the preparation and printing of textbooks on hold.
The Board of Governors has already approved teaching AI from Grades 1 to 5. However, implementation has been delayed because government primary schools currently lack AI laboratories.
Officials said that fully introducing AI as a standalone subject would require the establishment of AI labs in primary schools at a cost of millions of rupees.
As a result, authorities are considering including AI as a chapter within existing subjects instead of offering it as a separate course.
Education officials said the proposal remains under review and that a formal notification is expected to be issued soon.
