ISLAMABAD: The Senate of Pakistan has passed the Pakistan Army Act Amendment Bill 2025 with a majority vote. The session was presided over by Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar explained that the amendments were necessary following the 27th constitutional amendment to align existing laws.
Opposition members, including JUI-F’s Kamran Murtaza and PTI’s Humayun Mehmood, requested that the bill be sent to a committee for further review.
In addition, the Pakistan Air Force Act Amendment Bill 2025 was also approved. Key changes include the deletion of Sections 10D, 10E, and 10F and revisions to Section 202, which removed references to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.
The Pakistan Navy Act Amendment Bill 2025 was presented by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif. During discussions, Senator Danish Kumar raised questions about the benefits and privileges of officers in federal ministries’ state-owned entities (SOEs).
Minister of State for Finance Bilal Kayani assured that members’ questions are fully answered and that any remaining concerns will be addressed by the relevant committees.
The amendments aim to update military laws following recent constitutional changes and strengthen legal alignment across the armed forces.
