NEW YORK: Expressing concern over the dangers of military artificial intelligence, Pakistan has warned that the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the military field could trigger a new arms race.

Speaking at the United Nations Disarmament Commission debate, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said that AI must be prevented from becoming a new battleground for weapons competition.

He stated that the use of AI in military domains could lead to new arms races and destabilize both regional and global security environments.

He further said that this could have profound impacts on global peace and security. He emphasized that nuclear disarmament should be the top priority.
