ISLAMABAD: Hopes for restoring direct flights from Pakistan to the United States have grown stronger as the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) have resumed formal contact.
According to sources, the FAA has finalized plans for an official visit to Pakistan. The visiting U.S. team is expected to tour the PCAA headquarters and hold detailed discussions on the possibility of resuming direct flights between Pakistan and the United States.
The planned visit signals renewed cooperation between the two countries’ aviation regulators after years of restrictions and downgrades that prevented Pakistani carriers from operating direct routes to the U.S. Officials say the FAA team will assess Pakistan’s aviation safety standards, operational procedures, and regulatory reforms implemented in recent years.
A successful review could pave the way for lifting existing limitations and granting Pakistani airlines clearance to launch nonstop services to American cities, a move seen as vital for boosting trade, tourism, and facilitating travel for the large Pakistani diaspora in the United States.
