The chief of the interim government of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Thailand today and asked him to extradite ousted prime minister Hasina Wajid.
This was Yunus’s first meeting with Modi after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in Bangladesh. According to a foreign news agency, in the meeting, Yunus asked Modi to extradite fugitive Hasina Wajid to Bangladesh.
Yunus said that Hasina Wajid was making false and provocative allegations against the interim government in Dhakka and India should stop her from making such statements.
According to the press office of Yunus, PM Narendra Modi denied supporting any particular party in Bangladesh.
On the other hand, the Indian foreign secretary said Prime Minister Modi and Muhammad Yunus discussed the extradition request of Hasina Wajid. Prime Minister Modi stressed the support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, inclusive and constructive Bangladesh.
According to the foreign news agency, the meeting between the two leaders took place on the sidelines of a regional summit in Thailand.
