Case Filed Against Shah Rukh, Deepika in Car Defect Row
NEW DELHI: Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have been named in a complaint filed against Hyundai Motors India after a customer alleged that her newly purchased car developed serious technical faults.
According to reports from Indian media, Kirti Singh, a lawyer from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, lodged an FIR against Hyundai’s Managing Director, full-time Director, CEO, and local showroom owners.
The case also names Khan and Padukone, who have endorsed the brand in high-profile advertising campaigns, accusing them of promoting defective vehicles.
Singh claimed she bought the car in 2022 for ₹23.97 lakh through a bank loan, influenced both by the star-studded advertisements and the company’s assurance that the vehicle would be “trouble-free.”
However, within months, the vehicle allegedly began experiencing repeated technical glitches. Singh further stated that the car narrowly avoided multiple accidents due to these defects.
When she approached the dealership, Singh was reportedly told that the issues stemmed from a manufacturing fault that could not be repaired.
The case raises broader questions about celebrity endorsements in India and the extent of responsibility that public figures bear when promoting consumer products.
