BEIJING: China has rejected media reports suggesting tensions between Beijing and Islamabad over Pakistan’s alleged sharing of mineral samples with the United States.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry dismissed the claims as “misinformation or entirely fabricated,” aimed at undermining China-Pakistan relations.

In a statement on Monday, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry reaffirmed the strength of the bilateral relationship, describing China and Pakistan as “all-weather strategic partners” whose “ironclad friendship has withstood the test of time.”

The spokesperson emphasized that both countries maintain close coordination and deep strategic trust on matters of mutual interest.

Regarding recent reports of U.S.-Pakistan cooperation in the mining sector, the Chinese official clarified that Beijing and Islamabad are in close communication over the matter. Pakistan, the spokesperson noted, has assured China that its cooperation with the United States will not harm Chinese interests or affect bilateral ties.

Addressing concerns over mineral samples reportedly shown to U.S. officials, the spokesperson said the materials in question were locally sourced precious stones, not strategic or rare earth minerals. “Such reports are based on misinformation or are entirely fabricated. They appear to be deliberate attempts to drive a wedge between China and Pakistan,” the statement said.

The spokesperson also clarified that China’s recent export control measures on rare earth materials are unrelated to Pakistan. The measures, according to Beijing, are part of China’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its export control system in line with domestic laws and international obligations, including non-proliferation and the promotion of global peace and regional stability.
