ISLAMABAD: Work has started on the construction of Pakistan’s largest atomic power plant through financial assistance from the government of China.
According to media reports, the 1200 megawatt atomic power station would be established in Chasma where already two atomic power plants producing 320 megawatt electricity each are functioning through the cooperation of China.
According to the reports, formal work has been started on the construction of the new 1200 megawatt atomic power plant at Chasma. By the year 2030, Pakistan would be producing 4730 megawatts of electricity from its atomic power plants with the corporation of China.
Besides Chashma, two atomic power plants are currently producing 1100 megawatts of electricity in the port city of Karachi.
The chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Dr Ali Raza Anwar said that Pakistan and China had been collaborating in different fields to promote clean energy. He said that the two countries had closely worked in the atomic energy sector for the last 40 years.
Dr Anwar was speaking at a conference of the International Atomic Energy Commission held to commemorate the 40 years of the collaboration between Pakistan and China. The conference was held in Beijing.
Pakistan had been facing an acute shortage of electricity due to rising demand-supply gap putting a very negative impact on its industrial productivity.
