China to send Pakistani astronaut to its space station
ISLAMABAD: In a major milestone in Pakistan’s space development, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) signed a historic cooperation agreement with China’s Manned Space Agency under which Pakistan’s first astronaut will be sent on a mission to the Tiangong-Chinese space station.
According to a statement issued by SUPARCO, under the agreement, two Pakistani astronauts will receive training at the Astronaut Center in China.
One of the astronauts will be trained as a scientific payload specialist who will be prepared for specific scientific research at the China Space Station (CSS).
The selection process of the astronaut will be completed by 2026, after which he will join the next mission as per the plan of CSS.
The mission of Pakistan’s first astronaut will consist of advanced scientific experiments in areas such as biological and medical sciences, aerospace, applied physics, fluid mechanics, space radiation, environment, materials science, microgravity studies and astronomy.
