ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi has called a full-court meeting today at 2pm at the Supreme Court.

The meeting will review proposed amendments to the Supreme Court Rules 2025 and consider matters related to the status of senior advocates.

The meeting comes at a time when the recently approved Twenty-seventh Constitutional Amendment has triggered widespread debate across the country.

The amendment introduces major structural changes to the military and judicial framework, including the creation of new command positions for the armed forces and the establishment of an additional constitutional court to handle high-level disputes.

These reforms significantly alter the balance of responsibilities between existing state institutions and are expected to influence the functioning of the Supreme Court as well.

The amendment was passed swiftly, securing strong support in both houses of Parliament before being signed into law. Supporters argue that the changes will bring clarity and stability to Pakistan’s institutional arrangements.

Critics, however, worry that the reforms may concentrate too much authority in certain branches of government while reducing the judiciary’s oversight role.

Against this backdrop, today’s full-court meeting is viewed as an important step for the Supreme Court as it prepares to adjust its internal rules and procedures to align with the new constitutional landscape.
