Cricket Carnival Starts Ahead of Women’s T20 World Cup

LONDON: The iconic Waterloo Bridge was transformed into a vibrant cricket celebration as part of promotional activities ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, creating a festive atmosphere in the heart of the British capital.

The event featured the official trophy tour and a special photo session with captains of all 12 participating teams, who arrived at the venue aboard a double-decker bus. A temporary cricket pitch was set up on the bridge, where the captains took part in light-hearted cricket activities and interacted with fans.

The gathering, described as a “captains’ carnival,” drew a large number of spectators who witnessed a unique blend of sport, entertainment, and cultural celebration in one of London’s most famous landmarks.

Alongside cricket-themed activities, street cricket demonstrations, fan engagement games, and cultural performances added color to the event, turning the bridge into a lively festival ground.

The Women’s T20 World Cup is set to begin on June 12 in Birmingham with the opening match between hosts England and Sri Lanka. The tournament final will be played on July 5 at Lord’s.

Twelve teams will compete in the event, including England, India, Australia, Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and West Indies.
