Czech woman climber falls to death on Nanga Parbat

GILGIT: A 47-year-old woman mountaineer from the Czech Republic died after falling into a ravine at the Nanga Parbat base camp in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), according to officials.

The incident took place near Bunar Base Camp. The climber was part of a seven-member team, including her husband, that had arrived in Pakistan for trekking on Nanga Parbat, the world’s ninth-highest peak.

Following the accident, rescue teams have been sent to the area to retrieve her body from the ravine. The government and Alpine Club of Pakistan have expressed grief over the accidental death of the mountaineer.

Nanga Parbat is known as the “Killer Mountain” because of its dangerous routes and harsh conditions. Several climbers have lost their lives in previous attempts to summit it.
