She was honored with Hilale Pakistan award in 2022 for her role in promotion of Pak-US relations

WASHINGTON: Longtime Congresswoman from Texas and Chairperson of the House Congressional Pakistan Caucus Sheila Jackson Lee died of cancer at the age of 74.

Ms Jackson worked tirelessly in promoting relations between Pakistan and the United States of America. Pakistan had honored her with the country’s highest civilian award of Hilale Pakistan in the year 2022.

She had worked with successive Pakistani governments and prominent leaders, playing a major role in strengthening relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a message on X expressed his grief and sorrow over the death of Ms Jackson.

He said that as a co-chair of Pakistan Caucus in the US House of Representatives, she was a champion for stronger ties between Pakistan and the United States. He said Sheila Jackson’s contributions will be remembered and missed for years to come.

A few months back, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US Masood Khan had paid tribute to Ms Jackson for her services to Pakistan.

Ms Jackson’s visits to Pakistan during the 2005 earthquake and 2022 floods showed her empathy, solidarity, and support to the people of Pakistan by visiting them in person, he had stated.
