DFC Chief Expresses Desire to Expand Pak-US Economic Cooperation

WASHINGTON: Benjamin Black, CEO of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), at a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his desire to expanding economic partnership between the United States and Pakistan. 

The meeting was also attended by DFC’s Head of Investments, Conor Coleman, and senior leadership from the agency. The discussion centered on the expanding economic partnership between the United States and Pakistan, focusing on avenues for enhanced collaboration in key sectors.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for DFC’s growing role in catalyzing joint ventures between U.S. and Pakistani businesses, emphasizing the importance of such collaborations for job creation and productivity. He acknowledged Pakistan’s rapidly improving macroeconomic situation, outlining the government’s commitment to structural reforms and an attractive investment climate that could benefit U.S. investors.

Mr Shehbaz invited DFC to deepen its investments in several priority sectors including energy, agriculture, information technology, and mines and minerals. He also highlighted DFC’s portfolio of over $1 billion in Pakistan and pointed to the synergies between the two countries’ economic goals, offering opportunities for mutually beneficial business-to-business (B2B) engagements.

Benjamin Black briefed the Prime Minister on DFC’s strategic priorities and upcoming projects in Pakistan, noting the agency’s readiness to increase its footprint in the country following its recent reauthorization. He expressed strong interest in exploring new investment opportunities in collaboration with Pakistan.
