DGMOs agree to move militaries to peacetime positions

ISLAMABAD: The Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India have agreed to begin the process of restoring their respective militaries to peacetime positions, sources confirmed on Monday.

This development marks a significant step in de-escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) and is seen as the next phase following the reaffirmation of the ceasefire agreement between the two sides.

According to sources, the two military officials, Maj Gen Tariq Abdullah and Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, communicated through a formal channel to discuss mutual measures aimed at reducing the military footprint along the border.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the region and prevent any further hostilities.

This latest communication is the third hotline contact between the DGMOs in recent months, signaling a continued commitment to dialogue and peacebuilding.

The move follows a period of heightened tensions during which both militaries were deployed in forward positions following aggressive actions from the Indian side.

Analysts have welcomed the step, calling it a positive signal for regional peace and an opportunity to create space for broader diplomatic engagement.
