Islamabad: A moderate earthquake struck several major cities of Pakistan late Friday night, triggering momentary panic among residents but causing no reported damage.

According to initial seismological data, the tremors were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, and surrounding regions, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The magnitude of the quake was recorded at 5.0 on the Richter scale, according to early reports from the Meteorological Department.

Residents in affected cities reported feeling strong vibrations that lasted for a few seconds. People rushed out of their homes and buildings, especially in densely populated areas, fearing aftershocks.

Emergency services were put on alert as a precautionary measure, although no calls for assistance were reported by the authorities.

In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, tremors were felt around 2:15 am, prompting many to gather in open spaces.

Authorities confirmed that, as of now, no structural damages or injuries have been reported. Seismologists said the earthquake originated at a moderate depth, which may have limited its destructive potential.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) advised citizens to remain calm but vigilant, as aftershocks may follow in the hours ahead.

Meanwhile, social media platforms quickly filled with posts from individuals who experienced the tremor, sharing videos and real-time updates.

Experts reiterated the importance of earthquake readiness, particularly in Pakistan, which lies on a seismically active fault line. They emphasized the need for regular safety drills, construction code compliance, and public awareness.

Further details on the quake’s epicenter and geological profile are expected once full analysis is completed by national and international monitoring agencies.
