ECC Restores Rs7 Billion Cut in Lawmakers’ Development Schemes

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved the restoration of Rs7 billion cut from parliamentarians’ development schemes.

This will bring the total development allocation for parliamentarians back to Rs70 billion for the current fiscal year, reversing previous austerity measures.

The ECC at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb also approved additional funds of Rs692.9 million for arrangements related to the Islamabad peace talks between Iran and the United States. Compensation of Rs241 million was sanctioned for victims of the Imambargah Khadijah-ul-Kubra Tralai blast.

Under defense and security allocations, Rs1.015 billion was approved for the Pakistan Navy’s Hangor project as part of the Rafale Aircraft and Force Development Package. Pakistan Land Ports Authority received Rs528 million, while Rs800 million was allocated for the purchase of fast patrol boats for the Pakistan Coast Guards. Expansion of the Safe City Islamabad project was approved at Rs1.8837 billion, and Rs150 million was sanctioned for the operational requirements of NACTA. Security for the Reko Diq project will receive Rs413.9 million.

The ECC cleared Rs733 million for PTV employees’ June salaries, and Rs183.5 million was approved for telecom towers in Shigar, Gilgit-Baltistan, to enhance communication facilities in remote areas. Parliamentary secretaries’ expenses were sanctioned at Rs119.9 million.

For urban infrastructure and regional development, Rs875.89 million was allocated for Karachi and Hyderabad, and Rs284 million for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa development projects. Modernization of Pakistan Mint will receive Rs130 million, and Gilgit-Baltistan government priorities were allocated Rs437.7 million.

Additionally, the committee approved budget honoraria for federal budget preparation, including the Ministries of Commerce, Law, and AGPR. Financing facilities of up to Rs10 billion for PSO were maintained, and a revised framework agreement with Syngeneico was approved. Expansion of the Parliament House Islamabad mosque was sanctioned at Rs30 million, and Rs29.9 million was approved for official residential facilities.
