ECC Seeks Clarification On Funds for Local Govt Polls in Three Provinces

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) at a meeting approved a series of decisions aimed at addressing various national priorities.

According to the official statement, the ECC at a meeting under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Mohammad Aurangzeb sought clarification on the allocation of funds for local government elections in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Islamabad.

The Election Commission’s summary of 450 million rupees was directed to be resubmitted with detailed information.

In another key decision, the committee approved a fund of 100 million rupees for the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control. Furthermore, development funds for SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) initiatives were approved for the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

The ECC also granted approval for 8.79 million rupees for the repair of a Frontier Corps helicopter in Balochistan, emphasizing the importance of operational readiness in the region. Additionally, a substantial fund of 1 billion rupees was allocated for educational scholarships and the launch of new educational programs, including initiatives aimed at enrolling out-of-school children.

Another major decision involved the approval of aid supplies seized by Customs, which will now be handed over to the government of Gilgit-Baltistan. The aid will be utilized by the GB Disaster Management Authority in areas affected by natural calamities.
