Eight Pakistanis reach home after deportation from US: FO

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has confirmed that eight Pakistanis living illegally in the United States had reached home after being deported from the United States.

Foreign Office spokesman Shafqat Ali Khan said on Friday that the identity and other details of these people were available with the the Interior Ministry and the FIA. He said Pakistan was facilitating the return of its citizens from the US and was in constant touch with Washington in this regard.

Talking about Pakistan-US relations, the spokesperson said the two countries have a long-standing diplomatic relationship, and the F-16 programme was an important part of it. The recent decision of the United States regarding the F-16 program is a welcome move for Pakistan.

The Foreign Office spokesman said that Pakistan had repeatedly raised the issue of the advanced American weapons left in Afghanistan as they were in serious danger of falling into the hands of terrorists. These weapons are being used for terrorism in Pakistan, which is a cause of concern.

He added that the closure of the Torkham border was a complex issue, involving many institutions. The Afghan authorities wanted to set up a new check post near the border, to which Pakistan suggested them to find a solution through talks. Various agencies are also working on the flow of commercial trucks and other issues at the border.

Referring to the recent statement of the Deputy Prime Minister, the spokesperson said that many countries were ready to resettle a certain number of Afghan citizens, and if they do not do so, the relevant institutions will decide about their future.
