ISLAMABAD, July 10: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met United Nations Secretary-General candidate Rebeca Grynspan on Friday, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and urging stronger implementation of international law to promote global peace and stability.
During the meeting at the Prime Minister’s House, Sharif stressed that effective implementation of the UN Charter, UN Security Council resolutions, and international legal obligations is essential for ensuring lasting peace, security, and prosperity worldwide.
The prime minister said the United Nations must strengthen its role across its three core pillars—peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights—while calling for enhanced international cooperation to accelerate the global development agenda and support developing countries in addressing emerging challenges.
Grynspan praised Pakistan’s longstanding contributions to the United Nations and commended its constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability. She also acknowledged the country’s continued commitment to multilateral diplomacy and international cooperation.
The meeting focused on ways to reinforce the effectiveness of the United Nations in addressing global challenges through collective action, adherence to international law, and stronger multilateral engagement.
