ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers in Pakistan may face another increase in power tariffs as the Central Power Purchasing Agency has requested a hike of Rs0.26 per unit under the monthly fuel cost adjustment for March.
The request will be taken up for hearing by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority.
According to the report, a total of 8.939 billion units of electricity were generated in March, out of which 8.644 billion units were supplied to distribution companies. The reference fuel cost for the month was set at Rs7.99 per unit.
The energy mix during March showed that hydropower contributed 23.55 percent, followed by nuclear energy at 21.95 percent, and local coal at 16.76 percent.
Other sources included imported coal at 13.80 percent, local gas at 11.34 percent, liquefied natural gas (LNG) at 5.64 percent, wind at 3.46 percent, solar at 1.18 percent, and furnace oil at 1.02 percent.
If approved, the increase will be applicable to all consumers, including those served by K-Electric.
