EU agrees to buy 300 million doses of anti-corona vaccine
BRUSSELS: Like the rest of the world, the European Union (EU) and its member states are eagerly awaiting effective and certified vaccines to fight the global epidemic. In this regard the European Commission have signed an agreement with Pfizer and Biontech to purchase the newly prepared corona vaccine for usage of around 30 million people.
The move comes as pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced this week the 90 percent effective results of an anti-corona vaccine developed in partnership with Bio-Tech, the world’s first pharmaceutical company to launch Vaccines for the prevention of coronavirus have undergone extensive clinical trials.
“I am pleased to announce that we have entered into an agreement with European companies BioNTech and Pfizer to purchase 300 million anti-corona doses,” said European Commission President Arsula von der Leyen.
Under the agreement, the 27 member states of the European Union will be able to purchase 200 million doses of the vaccine for their citizens, while another 100 million doses will be purchased, starting with the EU’s drug regulator.
It should be noted that the EU has already entered into agreements with various pharmaceutical companies that are experimenting with anti-corona vaccines to ensure the availability of corona vaccine for its citizens.
