Ex-PM handed eight questions to answer in corruption case

Among others, Imran Khan was asked why land for Al Qadir University was taken from a property tycoon.

RAWALPINDI: Former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan on Tuesday appeared in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and joined the investigation in the 190 million National Crime Agency also known as Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.

The embattled PTI chief earlier obtained bail till June 8 from an Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad in eight cases pertaining to violence at the judicial complex.

When appeared before NAB, a Combined Investigation Team probed Mr Khan for over four hours. 

According to media reports, he was handed a questionnaire which contained the following points.: 

After Imran’s arrival, the NAB’s Combined Investigation Team (CIT) gave the PTI chief a questionnaire pertaining to the case.

The questionnaire, seeks answers to the following questions:

  1. In December 2019, why was a summary prepared for the approval of the return of illegal money from the UK?
  2. In December 2019, why was the approval for surrendering the return of illegal money from the UK given?
  3. Why was the land for Al Qadir University and other monetary benefits taken from the suspect in return?
  4. Why was the power abused while sitting in the highest public office role?
  5. Why were monetary benefits obtained from the suspects by abusing power?
  6. Why was a criminal act committed by returning the illegal amount from the UK to the suspects?
  7. Why were the letters and correspondence with the British National Crime Agency kept secret?
  8. Why was the summary for the East Recovery Unit kept secret?

During the investigation, NAB officials grilled Khan over the records of correspondence with the National Crime Agency in the United Kingdom and freezing orders from Khan regarding the £190 million.
