Five Policemen Martyred in Gang Attack on Police Checkpost

RAHIM YAR KHAN: A deadly armed assault on the Sheikhani Police Checkpost in Rahim Yar Khan has left five police officers martyred and two others injured.

According to police sources, the attack was carried out by members of the notorious Indhar and Bakhrani gangs, who used heavy weaponry including rocket launchers and hand grenades during the assault.

The tragic incident occurred while seven officers were on duty at the checkpost. The bodies of the martyred officers have been shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital.

Authorities confirmed that the fallen officers include three from Bahawalnagar and two from Rahim Yar Khan. The martyred personnel have been identified as Irfan, Saleem, and Khalil from Bahawalnagar, and Ghazanfar and Nakheel from Rahim Yar Khan.

The brutal attack highlights the growing threat posed by organized criminal gangs in southern Punjab and raises urgent questions about law enforcement resources and preparedness in the region.

An investigation is underway, and a large-scale operation against the gangs has been promised by local authorities.
